Brenda Anderson has been a writing friend since my first writing conference, the American Christian Fiction Writers, in 2010, and I was thrilled to be able to visit with her and fellow-Minnesotan and writer Stacy Monson last summer! We’ve shared great times, and we share a book birthday – YESTERDAY!!
But enough of that, let’s see what Brenda has to say about her newest writing venture!
A little over a year ago, I was contacted by a member of my book booster team regarding a new series that was being put together, and they were looking for one additional author. Stories—novellas—for The Potter’s House Books had only a few requirements: must be Christian, must show God working as the Potter in our characters’ lives, and each author must write three books that would come out within eight months.
Would I be interested in joining this group?
Considering that my stories typically show God molding broken people, that part was a no-brainer. Completing three stories in eight months? Not such an easy task. But after some prayer, I gave an enthusiastic Yes!
This series includes six other authors, many of whom don the Best-Seller status, and all write contemporary Christian fiction. Needless to say, I landed with a gifted group of authors!
All my books have characters that I introduced in a previous series (Coming Home series), that readers wanted to know more about. The Potter’s House Books was the perfect opportunity to tell their continuing story.
My third book in the series, Home Another Way (came out yesterday, February 5, 2019) follows Austin Lang, a formerly homeless teen, who readers first met in Hungry for Home (Coming Home Series #3). Austin is now a Family and Consumer Science teacher, and he coordinates the Family Table Meal, a weekly meal that serves the homeless in his community. He has a passion for teaching life skills and for feeding the homeless.
Danielle (Dani) Chamberlain is a senator’s daughter who, like Austin, has a passion for serving the homeless. But her methods are very different than his and get her arrested. Instead of jail time, she’s been assigned community service by the courts.
On her first day of service at the Family Table Meal, Dani breezes in wearing designer clothes and high heels and upends Austin’s neatly planned life.
Then the fun really begins!
Here’s the blurb from Home Another Way:
She’s a senator’s daughter.
He’s a convict’s son.
Can they overcome their differences and learn what it really means to serve and to love?
Realtor Dani Chamberlain’s passion for bringing attention to the homeless, regardless of the method, has once again backfired. Along with being sentenced to one-hundred hours of community service feeding the homeless, she’s also being kicked out of her home—by her own mother! She has less than two months to find a new place, or she’ll be living on the street herself.
Once a homeless teen, Austin Lang is now a school teacher and coordinator of the Family Table Meal for the homeless in his community. And he can’t wait to purchase his own home. When Dani Chamberlain breezes into the Family Table Meal wearing high heels and a haughty attitude, his life and plans are upended.
Dani is instantly drawn to the quiet, selfless man who puts his faith into action, and Austin can’t stop his attraction to the passionate woman who dives in to help people without thought to her own safety. Along with working together serving the community, they join forces to search for their new homes, deepening their attraction.
Then each of them receive news that shakes their foundations and threatens to tear them apart permanently. Can they overcome their differences and learn what it really means to serve and to love?
