I hope you’re all having a great week-after-Easter! Did you have a good weekend? We were truly blessed! Hard to believe it will be MAY in less than two weeks!
Today I’m excited to introduce you to one of my fellow-Mantle Rock Publishing authors! I met Sara L. Foust at a retreat last year, and absolutely loved her first book, Callum’s Compass!
This year her third book in the Faith, Hope, and Love series came out, Rarity Mountain!
Before we talk about that, let’s hear what Sara has to say about Mud and Rainwater!
Mud and Rainwater
by Sara L. Foust
Yesterday afternoon I was working in the yard a bit and watching my son play. The girls had been outside and gone in to rest and play with dolls, so it was just me and Cole, and my daughter Emma’s puppy. I was sitting there staring at the house and wondering why the base wall under the house for the crawlspace looked wet. Then it dawned on me, there was rainwater trapped under the house. Great. We have had a substantially higher than normal amount of rain, so I shouldn’t have been surprised, I suppose.
I grabbed a shovel and dug a hole, and then a ditch away from the house. The water came pouring out. My thoughts instantly turned to wondering just how much water was under there, was I going to have to go in the dark, damp, spider-filled crawlspace, and what damage had it done?
But my son was ecstatic! He squealed and began running through our new “stream,” splashing and muddying up everything within a five-foot radius. The puppy soon joined him, who, by the way, is a corgi and has 3-inch long legs. Needless to say, the puppy’s belly and nose were also soon covered in mud. And so was my son. His feet, legs, hands and arms all orange with that good ole East Tennessee clay. They couldn’t have been happier, and their joy brought a smile to my face. I sank into a chair and simply watched them play. I even grabbed my laptop and wrote while enjoying the sounds of their cheerful play and the evening sunshine setting behind the mountains.
What I saw as a problem, they saw as an opportunity. If only I could look at all my life’s problems in the same light. What could have been something I grumbled and worried about turned into something filled with laughter. I learn from my children daily. Sometimes the lessons are hard ones about discipline, nurturing through grief, and how to teach pre-algebra to a 7th grader who hates math. But other times, I am blessed by the simple lessons made from mud and rainwater.
About Rarity Mountain
On the surface, Simon Fincuff and Fern Strongbow have nothing in common. Simon has served his sentence, but his past conviction still haunts him. Fern is a veterinarian and grew up on an off-the-grid homestead. The one thing they share? Each has a dark secret they would do almost anything to protect.
When their current careers are yanked away, they are left scrambling to pick up the pieces. A reality television show falls into their paths, offering a life-changing opportunity that tests their resolve and their faith.
These two unlikely partners must battle to survive for thirty days in the untouched wilderness of Rarity Mountain with only a handful of survival items and a director who is out for drama, no matter the cost. With their lives and their carefully guarded skeletons on the line, they will discover how far they are willing to go to win the million-dollar prize for Survival Tennessee.
