Have you ever felt like you were in limbo? I don’t mean the game, where you have to try to bend yourself backward as low as possible to get under and ever-lowering bar. I mean that between-seasons limbo.
We’re in a place of extreme limbo right now.
Spring to Summer
At noon in Marion, KY, it was 85 degrees. I’m thinking Summery thoughts, so I put on shorts and flip-flops, opened all the windows I could, and I’m enjoying the breeze. Since the only decisions to be made in this situation is what to do with a beautiful day God has given us, we’re simply enjoying it. As a result, the lawn will be mowed, some weeds will be pulled, and writing will be accomplished. Today we pray for peace and energy.
First Book to Second Book
I’m in edits for Carolina Mercy right now, and I’m hoping to have it out in June! That’s tremendous!!! I’m also working on book three, Carolina Grace. Sometimes I have to remind myself after an editing session which book I’m working on so I don’t mess up the timeline! For that, I pray for wisdom and perseverance.
Working to Retirement
Hubby retired and is now looking to do other things. I’m self-employed, but it’s been a major life-change for me, too. We can go to Wal-Mart on a Tuesday morning if we want to, so it’s totally worth it. But there are decisions to be made, and prayers for guidance prayed. As of now, Hubby will be gone nine weeks this summer, training others to share the Good News. Nine weeks. That’s a long time. I’m praying for the ability to keep things going smoothly, and for peace. We still don’t know what the AFTER Summer looks like. We’re trusting God, and that’s all.
Family of four to family of two
Kids do grow up, don’t they? That 2,900sf Craftsman fixer with so much space on a half-acre right in the middle of town was a great idea when both girls were home – and when they moved home again. It was five minutes to everything, including all the school and church activities we were all involved in. Now they’ve made their own way, and we’re so proud of them. But that leaves us here, in a beautiful, huge house, that needs a big, busy family enjoying it.
My goal? I want to find 3+ acres in the country with big trees and a house just right for us, and for the kids when they come to visit. Chickens are not out of the question, and for those of you who know me, that shows my desperation! We’re praying for guidance. Do we finish fixing, or let someone else do it? Stay here, or move to the country? Stay here, or move somewhere else altogether? Ouch.
Church transitions
We love our church, and unless God calls us somewhere else, we’re not leaving. Having said that, our church is in limbo — currently without a pastor or worship minister. We’re praying for God to be preparing the ones He has for us in these positions, to lead our church, and praying desperately for guidance for us all as members and leaders.
My Example
Daniel, in the Old Testament, was in major limbo, Bless His Heart (I’m from the South, okay?). He was a slave, although highly-favored. He was many times stuck between a rock and a hard place. One of the first times, in the second chapter of Daniel, was when King Nebuchadnezzar ordered him to translate a dream for him.
Wow. Can you even imagine? Make the king happy, get a favor. Make him mad, lose your head?! But Daniel wasn’t worried. All he did was ask the king for a little time, and it was granted. When Daniel prayed to HIS King, God answered his prayer in a night vision! Here’s Daniel’s prayer of thanksgiving:
“Blessed be the name of God forever and ever,
For wisdom and might are His.
21 And He changes the times and the seasons;
He removes kings and raises up kings;
He gives wisdom to the wise
And knowledge to those who have understanding.
22 He reveals deep and secret things;
He knows what is in the darkness,
And light dwells with Him.
23 “I thank You and praise You,
O God of my fathers;
You have given me wisdom and might,
And have now made known to me what we asked of You,
For You have made known to us the king’s demand.”
God has the answers for all the “limbo” times in our lives. We just have to ask Him.
As in the “limbo dance,” we just have to remember to ignore the pain, and enjoy the dance.
Laurean Brooks says
Regina, I know the feeling of “limbo.” Seems that things are flowing well one week. Then the next weeks brings all sorts of distractions and upsets to pull me away from writing and marketing. It’s been one of those weeks.
Only you know what’s best for your and your family. I like the fixer-upper idea, but it could become and overwhelming project if you don’t get help.
