This summer I had the opportunity to spend three glorious weeks at Wilderness North (see that post HERE), where I had electricity, but no Internet, no television, and no refrigerator. Oh, and we went over on our cellular data THREE TIMES.
What did I do while Todd was off training Year On Mission young adults?
Mostly, I wrote. I wrote 30,000 words of Carolina Grace while I was there. But you can only write so long until you start wondering if you make sense and you begin to want to drop your characters off a cliff. I know, that would make for some exciting reading, but really, there are no cliffs in the locale about which I was writing.
So, I had to entertain myself in other ways besides solitaire on the computer or on my phone. Fortunately, I had loaded up my tablet with some amazing books. It’s a good thing, because I read sixteen novels while I was there. Yes, sixteen. I’m not talkin’ novellas, but 275-400 page novels.
Here are a few examples: I read mostly suspense (Susan May Warren, Lisa Phillips, Colleen Coble, etc.) and contemporary (Krista Phillips, Stacy Monson, Brenda Anderson, etc.), along with the Scrivener tutorial. I’ve read some historical since I’ve been home. I can’t wait to share THAT with you!
Over the course of the next few weeks, on Fridays, I’ll be talking about some of the books I’ve read in the last few months. I found some great ones, and there are a few that I’m already searching out the rest of the series to continue the love!
Stay tuned for some amazing books. Really. Did you think writers never read? Why do you think we started writing in the first place?! LOL
Happy Friday, and happy READING!!
