I trust you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, and if you went Black Friday Shopping, you’re snuggled up with a hot cup of cocoa under a throw, getting ready to nap after getting up at zero-dark-thirty.
Me? I don’t shop on Black Friday. That’s my decorating day.
The autumnal decor goes back in its bin, the regular decor gets moved around or put away, and the Christmas bins come up from the basement!
This is the point in which I’m usually overwhelmed and wish I could just ditch it all and go buy new stuff.
But I don’t.
A wonderful blogger friend of mine on Thistlewood Farms posted THIS about the overwhelm-ed-ness of holiday decorating – and she has a decorating blog!
But we’re here to talk about READING? Right? How do you de-stress from the overwhelming nature of that holiday that is Christmas?
Simple. You read a good book.
Today I’m going to talk to you about one of my favorite Christmas books, and it goes right along with the idea of the spirit of Christmas getting lost in the shuffle.
Skipping Christmas.
John Grisham is better known for his legal thrillers, which I love, but of the few non-legal novels he’s written, this is the one I’ve read more than once.
The movie, “Christmas With the Kranks,” is based on this novel, and they do a fair job of portraying an upper-middle-class family who decides to take a break from Christmas, no matter what anyone says.
Of course, as you can imagine, Christmas finds THEM in every way it possibly can.
If you’re looking for an entertaining, fairly short read, get a copy of Skipping Christmas. You won’t be disappointed!
Stay tuned next week for another of my favorite holiday reads!
Happy Black Friday!
P.S. On Cyber-Monday (Nov. 26!), from 6:30-10pm, I will be part of a Facebook party with FOURTEEN different Christian Fiction authors!!! Check us out! Win free books! Grand prize is a brand-new Kindle e-reader!!
