I am honored to welcome Sherrinda Ketchersid to Friday Reading, and just THREE DAYS after the release of her first book, Lord of Her Heart, an Inspy medieval romance!
NOTE! Comment on this post for a chance to win EITHER an ebook or paperback copy of Lord of Her Heart!! Anyone commenting between May 17 and May 24 will be put in the drawing!
And now, the interview!
- What inspired you to write, initially, and what encourages you to continue?
I love to read and have wanted to write a book since I was in high school. I even started a teen romance that I never finished. After I turned 40, I decided I didn’t want regret not trying to write a book, so I wrote Lord of Her Heart, which was originally called The Lady’s Masquerade. I started writing to bring the same joy and escape to readers that books have brought to me. What encourages me to continue is the love of weaving a story together. Also, the writing community is such a great group of people. I’ve made so many friends who encourage me to keep spinning tales.
I know how you feel! The first Christian writing conference I attended was SO much different from other conferences – it was like a big worship service, even in the hallways! I think God uses those contacts for accountability!
- Salad or sandwich?
Since I’m a low-carb girl, I would definitely have to say salad, sans the croutons. You can get salads everywhere, so it’s not difficult to eat low carb. Well, except when I smell yeasty bread!
Sigh . . . I’ve been on low-carb since last August. It took me a while to get over not just having a sandwich for lunch, but you finally get used to the lifestyle!
- What is your favorite Bible verse and why?
Galatians 5:1 is my life verse. “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” I love that Christ brings freedom, not rules and regulations. I don’t have to (and can’t) follow a list of rules to gain His acceptance. He loves me and wants me to love Him. His love enables me to live a life of love for Him and for others. There is such beauty in that kind of freedom.
Amen!
- What is one thing you have to do to yourself before you go out in public?
I would have to throw on a pair of jeans before I went out in public. Maybe it’s my age, but I can’t seem to let myself be seen in shorts or leggings. I live in them around the house, but to go to the grocery store? Nope. Weird, huh?
Same, but I can do capris if it gets hot enough! I’ve actually lost enough weight that I bought some shorts this week! But leggings? Uh. No. Nobody wants to see THAT! 😉
- If you were on a deserted island with a laptop and no wifi, what are two programs or apps you would have to have on your computer?
Scrivener would be a must-have. I am not great at using Scrivener yet, but it has been a great program to organize my stories. I love having my research, pictures, and character notes at my fingertips. I would also love to have Word. The track changes are so helpful when it comes to critiquing and getting critiqued. It makes it so much easier to incorporate changes with a click of a button.
You’re speaking my language! My last book was done with Scrivener, and I loved it! Otherwise I have random folders on my computer that I have to keep up with, and that’s no fun! I might have to sneak Solitaire on my laptop. Sometimes that’s what I have to do to free up brain space! LOL!
Thanks, Sherrinda! I think we may be kindred spirits! Now, let’s hear about the BOOK!
Lord of Her Heart
He’s fighting for his future—she’s running for her life.
Lady Jocelyn Ashburne suspects something is amiss at her family’s castle
because her father ceases to write to her. When she overhears a plot to
force her into vows—either to the church or a husband—she disguises
herself and flees the convent in desperation to discover the truth.
Malcolm Castillon of Berkham is determined to win the next tournament
and be granted a manor of his own. After years of proving his worth on
the jousting field, he yearns for a life of peace. Rescuing a scrawny
lad who turns out to be a beautiful woman is not what he bargained for.
Still, he cannot deny that she stirs his heart like no other, in spite
of her conniving ways.
Chaos, deception, and treachery threaten their goals, but both are
determined to succeed. Learning to trust each other might be the only
way either of them survives.

I’m so glad to have you!
Patti Jo Moore says
Great interview, Regina and Sherrinda!
I’m SO happy for (and proud of) Sherrinda on her book’s release – – sooo exciting! Cannot wait to read this story, and know I’ll love it. 🙂
No need to enter me in the drawing—I have the book and am starting it tonight (have gotten waaay behind on my TBR stack *sigh*).
Blessings, Patti Jo
Sherrinda Ketchersid says
Oh Patti Jo! Thanks so much for stopping by. You are so sweet. I hope the book lives up to your expectation. 🙂 Happy reading!
Regina Rudd Merrick says
Thanks so much for stopping by, Patti Jo!
Laura Conner Kestner says
Congratulations on your book, Sherrinda! Fun interview – I enjoyed learning more about you and your writing. And I agree, the Christian writing community is wonderfully supportive. I’ve made so many new friends since starting this journey.
Sherrinda Ketchersid says
Laura, I really think that is one of my favorite parts of this journey…all the friends I’ve made. I don’t know that I could do it without the support of my friends.
Regina Rudd Merrick says
I second that. I noticed at the first conference I attended how different it was from any other kind of conference – it felt like church! 🙂
Laurie Wood says
I have to agree with you ladies about the leggings! No leggings for this gal either! I do wear jeans every day, and sometimes sweat pants when I have a migraine and need to be comfortable. I loved learning about Sherrinda’s life verse and ability to use Scrivener. I haven’t mastered it and haven’t decided if I’m going to renew my licence on it. But it does have a lot of great features. Don’t enter me in the drawing because I already have this lovely book on my Kindle. As soon as I’m done with my Daphne judging next week, it’s next up on my TBR list! Congratulations, again, Sherrinda! I love medieval’ s and am so happy for you. 🙂
Sherrinda Ketchersid says
Laurie, thank you so much for stopping by! I’m so impressed you are judging the Daphne! That is so amazing. And Scrivener…well, let’s just say it took me awhile to learn it. I watched quite a few YouTube videos to learn. 🙂 Thanks for your support. 🙂
Regina Rudd Merrick says
I’ve never worn leggings in public, either, Laurie! I think I’m past the age for THAT, but I know a lot of older ladies that love them! I have some, and some yoga pants that I live in when I’m at home, though. Thanks for stopping by!
Terri Weldon says
Wonderful interview, ladies! I love learning new things about authors. About leggings, I totally get you. But I do like veg capris in the summer.
Lord of Her Heart sounds wonderful and I’m ready to relax and read!
Sherrinda Ketchersid says
Terri, I’m so with you on the leggings. While I don’t mind them around the house, I just can’t walk out of the house in them. I feel like I’m in pajamas! lol I hope you get some relaxation time this weekend. 🙂
Regina Rudd Merrick says
I’m definitely on the capri bandwagon! I love them!
Rhonda Starnes says
Great interview! I do agree with the no leggings in public comment. I teach middle school and I see way too much of that. 🙂
Congratulations on the book release, Sherrinda.
Regina Rudd Merrick says
I used to be a public library director and it amazed me the people that came to the library – or anywhere for that matter – in their pajama pants. I really don’t think I could do it!
Cynthia Herron says
Congratulations, Sherrinda! Woohoo! And wonderful interview, Regina!
I’d have to agree on #4 – NO shorts or leggings for me in public, but I will do capris and crop slacks. 🙂 OH, and I’m trying really hard to be a low-carb girl, too. It’s just that those darn mashed potatoes keep showing up at my dinner table. Lol
Regina Rudd Merrick says
It was interesting that I didn’t miss bread as much as I thought I would! Potatoes are something I try to save for special occasions! LOL!
Tanya Agler says
What a fun interview! I love the questions, especially the questions about salad or sandwich and two apps on a deserted island. Sherrinda, it was fun getting to know you better. Congratulations on your book. Regina, I enjoyed visiting your blog.
Regina Rudd Merrick says
Thanks for coming, Tanya!
Sharee Stover says
High-fives for Scrivener and low-carbs! Woop Woop. I’m still getting used to the low-carbs world since I’m a recovering CARBOholic. Giggle. Except for chocolate. Can’t give it up. I’m certain it’s a writing necessity. Congratulations Sherrinda on your debut! Sooooo excited for you!!
Regina Rudd Merrick says
Chocolate is my favorite low-carb snack – which it is if it’s dark, and I love dark! Thanks for stopping by!
Jackie says
Sherrinda, I enjoyed your interview and feel like I know you better. You don’t wear shorts in TX in the summer? I’m impressed. I’ve helped my kids move in TX twice in May and June and I learned how hot it is there!
Congratulations on your book!
Sherida Stewart says
Great to learn more about you, Sherrinda! I’d love to go to a Christian writer’s conference someday. Such fun to enjoy your launch week. Blessings!
Yvonne Weers says
I’m a little late to the party, as usual. But I have to say that Lord of My Heart is a book after my own heart! I love medieval genre! This is such a fun, well written story! Not as enthusiastic about leggings, though. ;-). Keep writing! And God’s blessings on your career!
Sally Shupe says
Great interview, Sherrinda!! I love salads and Word!!
