Today I take delight in welcoming fellow Mantle Rock Publishing author, Erin Howard! After reading the first book in her fantasy series, “The Kalila Chronicles,” The Seer, I have pestered her, as have many others, about the next book in the series, and now, The Soul Searcher is here! As of Wednesday, it’s in the top 100 sales in her category! I can’t wait to read it! Comment below and be in the drawing for The Soul Searcher in EBOOK (Kindle) format!!
There’s something about reading that has always been magical to me. Ever since I was a child, I’ve had my nose stuck in a book. Reading at night under the covers when I was supposed to be asleep, in the car no matter what distance we went, or walking the hallways of school and glancing up to make sure that I didn’t run into someone. I’m the type of reader that will try just about any book. I love all kinds of genres and have gone through many different stages of reading, but two things still apply all these years later.
- The bigger the book, the better.
- I always go back to fantasy.
When I first started writing, I wrote chick lit. I love reading funny (and snarky) dialogue, and I love quirky characters that have obsessions like chocolate. But even though I enjoy these fun and lighthearted reads, it didn’t take me long to realize that I had a story that wouldn’t leave my mind and was begging me to write it. I put it off for a while because a supernatural book seemed to intimidate me. I never finished the three-chick lit/contemporary books that I started, because no matter how much I tried, I kept coming back to fantasy. I had an assignment for a writing workshop to write a short story from an unlikely hero or villain’s point of view and finally, I didn’t have any more excuses. I dove into the assignment, and The Kalila Chronicles were born. The series is an urban fantasy series, which takes fantasy elements (in this case we have demons, angels, and supernatural abilities) and presents it in our world.
What I’ve found is that I didn’t have to give up my snarky characters. In both The Seer, and The Soul Searcher, Viktor can be pretty hilarious when he wants to be, and there’s still lots of room for action and adventure. I hope that readers will be not only able to escape for a little while reading this series but also find small pieces of themselves in the characters and relate to what they are going through.
The Soul Searcher blurb:
Elnora’s parents gave her one rule:
Stay hidden away at all costs.
Elnora Scott is used to her survival depending on the decisions of others. Locked away in her safe house, it is easy to follow her parents’ dying wishes until an angel, demon, and seer show up on her doorstep. Now, waking up in a dirty cell, she wishes she would have gone with them when she had the chance, because the very ones who unknowingly ushered the kidnapper to her location may be the only ones who can save her.
When Thea learns that Elnora may be in danger, she doesn’t hesitate to go find her. Thea thought stepping through the portal would be her greatest obstacle, but it only reveals a more sinister threat.

My favorite characters are Thea and Sam. I’m a little confused about Thea’s mother and still don’t know what she is going to do in the end.
The ending of The Soul Searcher was such a cliff hanger! I can’t wait to read the next book.
Congratulations on being in Amazon’s Top 100 in Fantasy! That is something to brag about. Loved this book.

Thank you, Kathy! Thea’s relationship with her mother is definitely interesting, and there’s nothing better than a good cliff hanger.
I was so excited to make it to #40! My readers are the best. =)
