Baby Gender Reveal Parties – who knew?
This last weekend I attended something I have never experienced – a Gender Reveal party. For any of you who don’t know what that is, when the mother-to-be has a mid-term ultrasound, the technician of course can see the gender. If you want to know, and want to have a party to celebrate it in a big way, you have a Gender Reveal party. They don’t tell you the gender. The mom-to-be gets a sealed envelope which is given to the people who set up the party.
There are businesses that do this this as a sideline. They come to your house and set up a table that his half blue-for-a-boy, and half pink-for-a-girl with treats and decorations. On a table beside the main table, there are 2 jars that everyone present picks a pink or blue beaded necklace to wear. You also cast your vote. In front of this is a BIG helium balloon. It is dark black so you can’t see through it, and is decorated with question marks.
When the time comes for the Big Reveal, the mom-to-be takes a special sharp pin and pops the balloon. Out comes pink or blue confetti (which the hostess has to clean up, and I’m sure will find in strange places for months). Insert squealing and crying here.
I’m going to be a gramma. It’s a girl!
