That sounds a little weird, doesn’t it? Praying for a BOOK?
Maybe. And maybe it’s a little selfish. Believe me, that is not my intention.
When I began to write Carolina Grace (releasing TOMORROW!), I prayed for God to use my book in some way. It’s the third book in a series, so the expectation is to tie up some loose ends while introducing more stories and characters.
I want to please my readers. But what I really struggled with was the evangelistic turn the story took. While all three books feature Christians struggling with day-to-day faith, in Carolina Grace I introduce, as a main character, a non-believer.
And so, I continue to pray. I pray that everyone who reads my book understands that I love them, believer or not. I pray that they know my main goal is to share the love of God.
In Matthew 22, a Pharisee tried to trip up Jesus by asking what was the greatest commandment in the law. His reply is in verses 37-40:
He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.
So yes, I write love stories. But the greatest love story is the story of God’s love for all of us. That’s my prayer for you today.
In His Grace,
