Happy Friday, y’all!
I’ve interviewed my friend Brenda Anderson before, and today we’re featuring her because she’s written a fantastic book, A Beautiful Mess, which I reviewed in THIS post! If you didn’t catch it, go now! 🙂
Read to the end to find out about the GIVEAWAY!
And now, the interview!
What have you learned about the heart of God for His children?
Brenda: That He loves us right where we are. He loves us through our messes and mistakes and encourages us to learn and grow from those mistakes.
Regina: Such an encouragement!
Was there a catalyst that launched your writing journey?
Brenda: I’ve written all my life, stemming back to grade school when I wrote plays that our class put on for the rest of the school. When I took walks on the farm, stories played out in my head. In high school classes, I often convinced teachers to let me write a story in place of a research paper. In spite of all that, I never believed writing was to be a career, until …
Back in 2005 when our kids were all in school full time, I planned to get a part-time job to help with family finances. I even picked up an application at our local Christian bookstore. But I’d had a story running through my head that wouldn’t let go, so instead of filling out applications, I started writing and couldn’t stop. Two weeks later I told my husband I’d started writing, and his response was a beautiful, “It’s about time!” He knew before I did that I was meant to write!
Regina: What a God-answer, when He gives our spouse the idea before we can quite grasp it!!
Do you have a life verse?
This past year our family has experienced a few real-life plot twists, and it would be very easy to allow those circumstances to bring us down. But even when life is tough, God is there! Isaiah 43:1 – 19 expresses it well, and I particularly cling to Isaiah 43:19 which says,
“Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?”
I love the excitement in that verse! Yes, life for us has changed, but in the midst of that change, God is doing something new, and it’s springing up like May flowers! How can we not find joy amidst the change?
Regina: Brenda, ever since your “plot twist” and your first mention of that verse, it has stuck to me like glue! God has an amazing way of transforming those “messes” into blessings, doesn’t He?
Thanks so much for joining me today, Brenda, and thank you for your writing! You’re a blessing!
