What are your memories of Easter? I have lots of them, including some Kentucky Easters where I tiptoed through snow in my brand-new white patent leather Mary Janes!
This first picture, taken by my grandmother in 1965, completely cuts out my mother (her daughter) in order to get a picture of the grandchild and creeping phlox.
As a child, we know it’s important. We get a new outfit. The Easter Bunny comes, hides eggs, and leaves a basket of goodies.
But as we grow older, we realize the singular importance of Easter. It really is all about Jesus. It’s the ultimate event in Christianity?
Hmmm . . . I think I should have said PENultimate, meaning “second to last,” because the ULTIMATE event will be when Jesus returns!
See, that’s really what we’re celebrating when Easter rolls around (no pun intended, Easter-egg-lovers!) each year, whether it be church musicals and plays, Easter egg hunts and parties, or simply a family coming together to worship together and share a meal. We do all this because Jesus died, was buried, and rose again. More importantly, we know that Jesus WILL COME AGAIN!
Why? Because He loves us more than we can understand.
If you have a church family, celebrate with them this Easter and love them well – give them a shout-out in the comments!
If you don’t, I know there is one out there that wants to love on YOU!
Have a truly blessed Holy Week!
