What? Where did 2022 go?
It seems that every time I send you a newsletter or post on my blog, I’m apologizing for disappearing for weeks (and months) on end. It’s been a trying couple of years in many ways.
Covid notwithstanding, since 2020 both my parents experienced falls that put them in the hospital, then in rehab, and then a local nursing home. We’ve dealt with dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, Covid, infections, injuries … and that’s just with my parents. My in-laws have also faced health issues that moved them into an assisted living facility.
Where We Live
On the home front, last November we sold our house. Quite unexpectedly.
When my sister and I made the decision to sell our parents’ property, we began making plans to make sure all our I’s were dotted and t’s crossed to make sure they are cared for as well as humanly possible. In the process, Todd and I toyed with the idea of purchasing their house, which sits just outside of town on 3+ acres, and selling our 100-year-old house in the middle of town. The conversation went something like this:
My husband, lounging on the sun porch of my parents’ house, looked around and said, “I think we could make this work.”
I’ve thought about it for years, but this was the first time HE wanted to move to a smaller house – with more land.
He went on to say, “But you know, God’s got to sell our house. We’ve tried two different times, and never even got an insulting offer.” That’s been the joke for a while, now.
Would you believe 2 days later we had a full-asking-price offer for our house in town?
So, that’s how it went down. Between November and the end of March, we cleared out things from both houses (not nearly ENOUGH things, but you know how it is!), and moved the 2 miles to the house on the hill.
We love it.
That’s not the end of my story – I’ll be sharing more next week. I hope you’ll follow along!
Blessings,
