Last Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, I turned in Carolina Grace. Finally. Of course that means the work is just beginning in that editors will start the process of making it better, and it will be up to me to get the work done.
All that to say this – I have a few free days with no deadline until I get the first round of edits! Whoo-hoo!!
To celebrate, over the weekend I did some distinctly non-writerly things that will affect my writing. I moved my office – again.
My husband pointed out that I have written three different books in (at least) three different places in our house. Same house, different rooms.
Carolina Dream was written in a combination of the den where the computer was housed, the recliner with my laptop, and my work computer on breaks at the library.
Carolina Mercy? When I finished this one, I had moved my desk to my music room off the dining room.
Carolina Grace was finished in the office that was formerly my husband’s office. As a retiring teacher, he didn’t need an office.
SO HE SAID!
I wasn’t even in there long enough to get a good picture of my desk in the room!
When Todd joined Tentmakers as Kentucky Regional Training Manager, working from home, we both realized that he couldn’t make calls and do the things he does in the den without totally distracting me from what I need to do, which is write, work on marketing, make videos (eventually). Plus, he likes to talk to me between calls when I’m within earshot, but that’s been my burden for 35 years.
The solution? Move me as far away from his office as possible while staying in the house. Being empty-nesters, we seldom have overnight guests, so one of the upstairs bedrooms is pulling double-duty. I’m actually practically right above him, but I can’t hear him. He can make calls and tromp all over the downstairs, and I am blissfully unaware. In the meantime, I’m in a room with seven windows and no street noise, and I love it.
We’re fortunate that the one daughter who lives here has a boyfriend who can help move furniture, so shout-out to David!
Now I get to decide how to decorate. I’m thinking a beach-theme . . . What do you think?
Happy Wednesday!

Love a beach scene. Before we moved to KY, my writing space was beside the fireplace in the kitchen. I felt like Cinderella. Now I have a dedicated office. No one sleeps here, but they do watch tv. Love being away from everyone.
