How is everyone faring during the pandemic? Are you corona-weary? I pray that you’re all well, and that you’re observing the rules of social distancing and isolation as much as possible!
We’re great – hubby and youngest daughter are working from home, as I do normally, so we try to stay out of each other’s way! As the lone introvert used to having the house to myself, I think I’m the one suffering, not them! LOL!
While I was back and forth to the hospital with my Dad, I started corresponding with today’s guest, Jodie Wolfe, and found her to be a sweetheart. She writes historical westerns, so that’s another point in her favor!! I hope you enjoy this little interview, and check out her book!
Welcome, Jodie!
Do you look on writing as a “calling?”
Most definitely a calling. Writing is the ministry that God has called me to do. For me it’s a labor of love.
Amen. Honestly, I think it’s too hard to do if you don’t have God on your side!
What is one story from real life that you’ve included in one of your books?
I have one coming up in the sequel to my new release, book two in the Burrton Brides series. When my husband proposed to me the first time (that’s a story too), he kissed me. It was my first kiss. I was a junior in college. Let’s just say, I was less than impressed and thought, “I waited all this time, and anticipation for that?” Chuckle. Fortunately I’ve changed my mind since then.
HA!!!!! I remember my first kiss – fortunately it wasn’t my husband – and I was NOT impressed! I can only imagine how funny that will be in the context of your story!
Salad or Sandwich?
Sandwich, but now it has to be on low-carb bread since I recently was diagnosed as diabetic.
Oh, bless you. I’ve done low-carb for weight loss and joint pain, but I feel for anyone with diabetes.
What is your favorite movie and why?
My favorite movie is The Return of the King (The Lord of the Rings). When my sons were still living at home, over Christmas break we would marathon watch this set of movies. The final movie is by far my favorite because it points us to the return of our Heavenly Father one day.
It’s my favorite, too. Someday I want to watch the extended versions, but I haven’t found anyone who wants to dedicate that much time to watch with me!
Is there someone, alive or dead, who had a major influence on your writing life, or on your life in general?
I would have to Laura Ingalls Wilder. It’s because of her books that I developed a love of the 19th century and historical books.
I KNEW we were kindred spirits!!! Laura Ingalls Wilder is my deep literary love. I’ve been to DeSmet, SD, the homestead, Plum Creek, and Rocky Ridge Farm. I literally cried when I saw the “Give Us This Day” bread plate that they threw out the window when their house burned!
Jodie’s book, Taming Julia
In 1875, Kansas bachelor Drew Montgomery’s sole desire is to serve God, but his congregation’s ultimatum that he marry or leave, forces him to advertise for a wife by proxy.
Jules Walker strides into Drew’s life wearing breeches and toting a gun and saddle–more cowboy than bride. After years on the trail, she’s not exactly wife material, but she longs for home and family, and will do anything to ensure Drew never discovers what she really is.
